A Slovenian business delegation visits Chengdu to strengthen economic cooperation with China in energy, advanced technologies, manufacturing, digital innovation, and industrial development.
Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia (GZS), in cooperation with SPIRIT Slovenia Business Development Agency and co-organised by the Municipality of Ljubljana, the Municipality of Kočevje, and the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Beijing, is organising an outbound business delegation to Chengdu, one of the key economic and innovation centres of western China, from 13 to 16 May 2026.
Marking the 45th anniversary of the partnership between Ljubljana and Chengdu, the delegation is focused on strengthening direct business ties between Slovenian and Chinese companies and identifying concrete opportunities for long-term cooperation.
“Chengdu is one of the most dynamic economic hubs in western China and represents a strategically important environment for Slovenian companies, particularly in the fields of energy, advanced technologies, and industrial solutions. Through this delegation, we aim to provide companies with direct access to partners, concrete business discussions, and long-term strengthening of their presence in the Chinese market,” emphasised Ms Marjana Majerič, Executive Director for Strategic Development and Internationalisation at GZS.
The central event is the Slovenian-Chinese Business Conference, taking place today, May 15th, in Chengdu, with the participation of representatives from local authorities, economic institutions, and Slovenian and Chinese companies. The delegation programme also includes pre-arranged individual B2B meetings, visits to selected companies and technology centres, as well as accompanying events organised by the City of Chengdu.
The delegation includes companies from a wide range of industries, including energy, advanced manufacturing, industrial equipment, digital technologies, information and communication solutions, construction, and tourism, as well as companies specialising in business consulting, education, media, and niche consumer products. This diversity enables a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to international cooperation.
The delegation is positioned within the broader framework of institutional and intercity cooperation, as Chengdu and Ljubljana celebrate 45 years of partnership in 2026. This anniversary represents an important foundation for deepening economic dialogue and upgrading cooperation, particularly in the fields of innovation, sustainable development, and industrial transformation.
The purpose of the visit to China is to establish and strengthen direct business links between Slovenian and Chinese companies, present Slovenian technological, industrial, and service solutions, and identify concrete opportunities for cooperation, investment, and joint development. Special emphasis is placed on the long-term strengthening of economic cooperation between Slovenia and the People’s Republic of China, particularly with the rapidly developing, technologically advanced regions of western China.
Trade Exchange
In 2025, Slovenia exported goods worth EUR 234 million to China, while imports from China amounted to EUR 9.078 billion. Total trade exchange between the two countries reached EUR 9.312 billion in 2025.
As a result, China ranked as Slovenia’s fourth most important trading partner in goods exchange last year.
