The European Commission believes that, in order to achieve the goals of the citizens’ initiative My Voice, My Choice, there is no need to establish a new European fund, as Member States can use existing resources from the European Social Fund Plus to support safe and accessible abortion.
However, for the first time, it has acknowledged the possibility of using EU funds to ensure access to safe and legal abortion, defining it as an issue of public health and social justice at the EU level.
Nika Kovač announced that the next step of the campaign will be to convince individual EU Member States to support the implementation of the mechanism in practice.
