Discover EU: Denmark Day – Thursday, December 11

The Representation of the European Commission in Slovenia and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in Hungary are organizing a unique Denmark Day event as part of the Discover EU initiative, marking the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The event will be organized on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the House of the European Union, Dunajska 20, Ljubljana.

Visitors will discover Denmark’s rich cultural heritage through a diverse, creative, and interactive program!

The morning will start with the magic of Danish fairy tales and getting to know Denmark through the eyes of young people.

In the afternoon, everybody will get the chance to create holiday decorations made of natural and recycled materials in the spirit of Scandinavian design.

Denmark Day Program:

10:00 –11:30 – Magical fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen

In a magical morning storytelling program, everybody who joins can listen to two timeless fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen in the company of Danish-Slovenian actress Lucija Ostan Vejrup.

After the program, a colouring activity will be organized and cinnamon snails, in Danish – “kanelsnegle” will be served.

13:00–14:00 – Discover Denmark (in English)

Interns at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in Hungary, Jacob Thorsager Mogensen and Oliver Søgaard Schøsler, will present their experiences and perspectives on life in Denmark and share useful advice for anyone interested in studying or living abroad.

During the lecture, they will take the audience to Denmark and present in an interesting and interactive way the cultural peculiarities, historical facts, and the numerous opportunities that the country offers to young people. The achievements of the Danish presidency of the Council of the EU will also be presented.

After the lecture, students will be able to enjoy a relaxed and creative get-together. They will try the typical cinnamon snails “kanelsnegle”, decorate them as desired, and make a small pendant out of LEGO bricks.

18:00–19:30 – Closing ceremony of Denmark Day with a workshop on making traditional holiday decorations and greeting cards

The event will open with a welcoming address by the Ambassador of Denmark, HE Christian Thorning, who will introduce participants to the festive atmosphere and Scandinavian hospitality.

This will be followed by a creative workshop in collaboration with the Smetumet association.

The visitors will be invited to make traditional holiday decorations and greeting cards sustainably, using natural or recycled materials, in a simple Scandinavian style that expresses warmth and comfort.

The event will be enlivened by a musical program, and „sweetened” with cinnamon rolls. This will create a genuine “hygge” atmosphere, a feeling of warmth, relaxation and pleasant company, typical of Scandinavian holidays.

With the decorations that the event guests will create, a Christmas tree in the EU House will be decorated as an expression of the common festive spirit.

The event is free, but the organiser asks you to register in advance
