The group exhibition Beyond the Academy presents a comprehensive survey of the work of four exceptional painters of the second half of the 20th century: Ilija Bašičević Bosilj, Sava Sekulić, Matija Skurjeni and Jože Tisnikar. Within the wider region, they represent the pinnacle of self-taught artistic production during this period, and their works form part of major international collections.
The exhibition invites a fresh appraisal of their bodies of work—from fantastical inner worlds and mythologies to intimate, often dark universes and subtle symbolism that resists a single interpretation.
The exhibition is the result of a collaboration with the Museum of Naïve and Marginal Art in Jagodina, Serbia; the Matija Skurjeni Museum in Zaprešić, Croatia; the Koroška Gallery of Fine Arts in Slovenj Gradec; and the private Zander Collection in Cologne, Germany.
Venue: Galerija Božidar Jakac, Kostanjevica na Krki
Opening of the Exhibition: September 25th at 7 pm
On display from 25. 9. 2026–28. 2. 2027.
