Jing Hou, the CGTN journalist, reports from Dalian on this year’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions, also known as the Summer Davos.
From June 23rd to 25th, more than 1,700 leaders from over 90 countries will gather at the Dalian International Conference Center…just a 10-minute walk from here…to discuss the theme: “Innovating at Scale.”
Just next to the venue is Dalian Port. It ranks fourth globally in container performance among 403 international ports, with 108 shipping routes connecting over 300 ports worldwide. It uses smart technologies to move goods at scale and more efficiently.
At this year’s Summer Davos, green innovation is also front and center. The main venue and core facilities are powered by 100% green electricity. Nearly a thousand new-energy vehicles are on standby for guests. More than 80% of service vehicles are new energy, including 44 electric shuttles, 16 hydrogen buses, and six autonomous minibuses.
And in green shipping, Dalian has built a first-of-its-kind capability: a port that can supply multiple clean fuels…including biofuels, green methanol, and LNG.
Then there’s AI. Dalian’s AI Computing Center is one of China’s first national-level open AI platforms. It has supported 174 research teams and 55 companies, and helped incubate more than 150 AI applications.
Earlier this month, Tencent launched its first education-focused AI agent LearnBuddy, with Dalian University of Technology as its first partner.
From transport hub, to green energy hub, to AI innovation hub…Dalian is showing what “innovating at scale” looks like in practice.
